Anchorite — Terms of Service
Last updated: 19 August 2026
1. The service
Anchorite lets you state a task and a length of time. For that period it examines pages you open and blocks those it judges not to serve the stated task. Judgement is made by fixed rules, a language model running on your own device, and — for genuinely ambiguous pages — a request to our server.
2. It is a tool, not a guarantee
Anchorite makes judgements about meaning, and it will sometimes be wrong in both directions: it will block something you needed, and it will allow something you did not. It fails open by design — when it cannot reach a decision it allows the page, so that a fault never leaves you unable to work.
It is therefore an aid to your own intention and not a control you should rely on where the consequences of a mistake matter. Do not use it as a parental control, a workplace compliance measure, or any safety-critical filter.
3. Free use and subscription
Anchorite is free to install and use. Each installation includes a number of AI judgements at no cost; after those are used, the extension continues to work using its built-in rules and on-device matching, and a subscription restores AI judgement on ambiguous pages.
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Prices are shown before you pay and include any tax due.
4. Your licence key
A subscription gives you a licence key. It is yours to use on the computers you personally use. Sharing it publicly, selling it, or using one key across an organisation is not permitted, and a key used that way may be withdrawn.
5. Acceptable use
Do not attempt to circumvent usage limits, send automated traffic to our servers, or use Anchorite to break the law. Fair-use limits apply and are described on the subscription page.
6. Availability
We aim to keep the service running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted. Anchorite is designed so that a server outage degrades it rather than breaking it: sessions continue, local rules continue, and only AI judgement is lost.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for lost productivity, lost data, or missed work resulting from a page being blocked or allowed.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
8. Changes
These terms may change. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new date, and where they affect a subscription you will be told before they take effect.
9. Ending
You may stop using Anchorite at any time by removing the extension, and cancel a subscription at any time. We may withdraw access for a serious or repeated breach of section 4 or 5, and will refund any unused portion if we do.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere, you keep the protections of your own country's law.
