Lock Anchorite in place
So a session cannot be ended by switching the extension off.
This installs Anchorite as a managed extension. Chrome and Brave then remove its disable toggle and its Remove button — not greyed out, gone. Undoing it needs your administrator password and a browser restart.
That is deliberate. It is also permanent enough that you should decide now, calmly, rather than in the middle of a session.
Why this exists
Anchorite already refuses to end a session early: no snooze, no override, no unlock, and the session survives quitting the browser and restarting the machine. But an extension cannot stop itself being disabled — the browser forbids it, and every blocker ever written is subject to the same rule.
What browsers do allow is an administrator requiring an extension. That is what this file does. It is the same mechanism behind the strict modes in Cold Turkey and Freedom.
macOS — Chrome and Brave
Download the profile- Double-click the downloaded file.
- System Settings opens — look under Privacy & Security → Profiles, or General → Device Management on older versions.
- Click the profile, then Install, and enter your administrator password.
- Quit the browser completely (⌘Q) and reopen it.
You do not need to install Anchorite first — the profile installs it as well as locking it.
Windows — Chrome and Brave
Download anchorite-lock.reg- Right-click the file → Merge, and accept the prompt.
- Close the browser completely and reopen it.
Checking it worked
Open the Anchorite popup. It will say “Locked by policy — this extension cannot be disabled or removed.” If it still offers you a link back to this page, the profile did not take effect; restart the browser first, and if it still does not, email support@getanchorite.com.
You can also check chrome://extensions or
brave://extensions: Anchorite should read “Installed by enterprise
policy”, with no toggle and no Remove button.
Undoing it
macOS: System Settings → the same Profiles pane → select Anchorite Lock → remove it. Requires your administrator password. Restart the browser.
Windows: download anchorite-unlock.reg, merge it the same way, restart the browser.
What this does not do
- It is per browser. Installing a different browser goes straight around it. If you are serious, lock every browser you have — these files cover Chrome and Brave.
- An administrator can undo it. If that is you, this is not a lock somebody else holds the key to. What it buys is converting circumvention from a one-click reflex into a deliberate, password-typing act — which is the whole mechanism, because the failure it defends against is impulse, not planning.
- It does not survive wiping the machine or a new administrator account.
